QThe tip of the propellor blade on our boat seems very close to the bottom of the boat and the clearance is only about one inch from the swim, will this cause any loss of power? Should we fit a smaller prop?

ANICK REPLIES... It sounds a little tight, but it should be all right. Reduced propellor tip clearance is more likely to result in extra noise and a greater likelihood for something to jam between the tip and hull or skeg than to reduce the thrust in any meaningful way. It’s quite possible that the boat originally had a smaller prop that simply wasn’t up to the job.
