HERITAGE UPS AND DOWNS
The annual report into the state of the Canal & River Trust’s heritage structures shows that the total number listed on ‘heritage at risk’ registers has remained constant at 24 – but this overall figure masks some good and bad news. On the negative side, the Grade 2 listed Stainton Aqueduct on the Lancaster was added to the list following severe damage in last winter’s floods. However, following repairs, James Bridge Aqueduct on the BCN was taken off the at risk list. CRT is optimistic that progress on Soulbury Pumphouse, Saul Junction Lock, the Birmingham Roundhouse and Fox’s Kiln at Gloucester will lead to some of these being removed from the registers next year.
