The right way to build new
THIS MODERN DEVELOPMENT of timber-clad canalside family homes in Lancaster has won developers H20 Urban a design award.
The scheme, which is set in a heritage area near the city centre, combines new build, refurbished Grade 2 listed buildings, and the option for residents to buy part-built homes for custom completion.
Meanwhile, elsewhere on the network, much larger waterside developments are on the way: in Leicester, plans have been submitted by the City Council for Leicester Waterside Phase 1, a regeneration along the Soar Navigation to the north-west of the city involving 550 new homes plus offices and retail space.
And on the BCN Main Line, a blueprint has been published for the latest phase of the redevelopment which is spreading north-west from Birmingham City Centre, with reinstatement of part of the former Cape Arm in Smethwick planned as part of one of five “key brownfield sites” which will see some 5,000 new homes.
