Hitting the Moira trail
THE ASHBY CANAL’S northern reaches will host the 2017 IWA National Trailboat Festival.
It will be held at the historic Moira Furnace on the isolated reopened length from Donington to Moira, in support of the Ashby Canal Trust’s campaign to restore the rest of the northern reaches.
Taking place over the late spring bank holiday weekend of 27-28 May, there will be a wide range of
entertainment including a visit from the Coldstream Guards, a horse boat, a Battle of Britain flypast, a duck race, music, stalls and a range of demonstrations.
For visiting boaters the event will provide an opportunity to navigate the canal’s only lock, and on the Monday afterwards they will be invited to visit the current restoration work site at Snarestone and hear an update on the progress made.
