Planning a canal

Canal Boat - - Letters -

HERE’S A COINCIDENCE. I’ve just read the article about the Leeds & Liverpool Canal ( CB, Nov). About three weeks ago I came by two plans from the Wentworth Estate which were being binned, can you believe? A friend of mine rescued them.

One is a 1815 hand copy of the proposed route of the L& L (pictured), and the other an 1816 hand copy of the Dearne & Dove Coal Canal.

I found the information about the location of the coal and quarries particularly interesting as they are the whole reason for the route of the canal.

I need to get the old plans cleaned and flattened out and then I intend to frame them at some point. KERRY BROOKSBANK, via email
