Mopping up the mess
IT IS SAD, as Neil Barnett observes ( CB, Dec), that so much detritus still finds its way into the canals, presumably from people who see the canal system as a convenient disposal site, and I agree that some use of volunteer time would be usefully employed in removing it.
However, I would encourage anyone who observes this floating detritus to take some action themselves and remove a small amount as they pass by. If each boat crew were to do this it might go a long way to cleaning up the canal. JAMES EDGE, via email
