Mop­ping up the mess

IT IS SAD, as Neil Bar­nett ob­serves ( CB, Dec), that so much de­tri­tus still finds its way into the canals, pre­sum­ably from peo­ple who see the canal sys­tem as a convenient dis­posal site, and I agree that some use of vol­un­teer time would be use­fully em­ployed in re­mov­ing it.

How­ever, I would en­cour­age any­one who ob­serves this float­ing de­tri­tus to take some ac­tion them­selves and re­move a small amount as they pass by. If each boat crew were to do this it might go a long way to clean­ing up the canal. JAMES EDGE, via email
