NICK CLACK AND ALI ROBERTS lived in London until quite recently, but decided to move to Bristol where many of their friends live and where they thought the quality of life would be better. It was only having made that decision that they started considering a boat to live on. They have some experience having taken hire boat holidays, and having friends with boats.
After looking for a used boat, they realised it was almost impossible to find one with three bedrooms so they started considering builders for a new boat. As part of their research they visited the factory in the Czech Republic, and were impressed by what they saw. Tulak is Czech for ‘wanderer’, to reflect the boat’s roots.
The focus on the environmental aspects of the boat is explained by Nick’s job. He was until recently an energy campaigner with the Campaign for the Protection of Rural England and is now becoming a home energy assessor. Ali is a social worker, working in Gloucestershire.
