WHAT’S IN the name

Canal Boat - - Me & My Boats -

ERIK BELLAMY TOLD US: “My boat has the name of a folk rock band in which, many years ago, I used to play five-string banjo, a home-made mandola known as ‘The Plank’ and, ashamedly, a tambourine. The Canny part was derived from the fact that our front man and main vocalist was a giant 6ft 3in Geordie. The Craic part was in recognition of the Irish bass player, a talented musician but partial to a cocktail of Guinness with Vermouth chaser, we would regularly lose him on our way back from the pub. The band survived for an unforgettable couple of years and the name is a happy reminder of my wilder past.”
