Now that’s a bright idea
THIS IMPRESSION OF a dazzlingly illuminated London Bridge is part of one of six designs shortlisted from 100 entries from 20 countries in a competition by the Mayor, Sadiq Khan, and the Illuminated River Foundation charity for “ideas for creative light installations for central London’s bridges”.
Blurring Boundaries, submitted by Adjaye Associates, would use a series of light installations to “spotlight the unique histories and qualities” of the 17 bridges over the Thames, coupled to “urban pavilions” and an auditorium along the banks.
Other entries feature illumination of the river walls as “a constant thread of light”, lighting which changes with the tides, and even lampposts in the water.
The winning entry will be chosen on 8 December, and developed in consultation with the public in time for the project to start in 2018.
