Bid to find out who’s using the towpath – and how

Canal Boat - - News -

AS THE LATEST step in its ‘Share the Space’ campaign to encourage more considerate towpath sharing by different groups of users such as cyclists, walkers, boaters and anglers, the Canal & River Trust has launched an online ten-minute towpath sharing survey.

The survey is aimed at all towpath users, but refers particularly to running and cycling, with everyone completing it getting the chance to win £ 50 of Wiggle (online cycle / running shop) vouchers. Questions include: Whether those taking part realise that towpaths are a “shared space with pedestrian priority”. Whether they have been involved in any collisions / near misses / been shouted at. Whether they use Strava or any other running / cycling app or similar. What they think of the speed of other towpath users. Attitudes to chicanes, barriers and speed bumps. The survey closes on 20 January. To take part, go to canal and follow the links to ‘about us’, ‘our campaigns’ and ‘share the space’.
