A light in the middle of the tunnel?

Canal Boat - - News -

A LITTLE MORE light is to be shed on the interior of Falkirk Tunnel on Scotland’s Union Canal thanks to a project by Scottish Canals to ‘light up the recesses’ of the 630-metre bore.

As shown in our long-exposure picture, there are already lights to guide towpath walkers, but the extra illumination planned will give them a better view of its partially unlined construction and colourful rock strata.

Not only that, but Scottish Canals hopes to stage theatrical performances, including grisly Hallowe’en events linked to the notorious 19th Century Edinburgh murderers Burke and Hare, who worked as navvies on the canal.
