Pre-paid London moorings launched
BOATERS WISHING TO visit London but concerned that they will find nowhere to moor will now have the option to pre-book a berth at Little Venice – but at a cost of £10 per night.
Following a survey which indicated that the pressure on mooring space was a significant deterrent to visiting the capital by water, two berths on the Rembrandt Gardens side of the Pool at Little Venice have been chosen for a trial of pre-bookable short stay moorings. They can be booked for up to seven nights at a time, bookings can be made for as far ahead as October 2017, and they can be changed or cancelled with 14 days’ notice. Boaters overstaying or mooring without booking face a £25 a day excess charge.
Boating Strategy and Engagement Manager Matthew Symonds said the moorings would enable boaters to “pull up in one of the most picturesque parts of London, close to the heart of the city and with great transport links”.
Depending on the success of the trial, the Trust will investigate rolling-out the scheme to other “suitable places” across London – but ensuring that “use is balanced with existing visitor and casual towpath moorings, and longer-term moorings.
