Safe tow­paths group launches

CON­CERNED AT A se­ries of tow­path mug­gings in Lon­don, par­tic­u­larly on a length of the Lee, lo­cal boaters have launched a com­mu­nity group aimed at en­sur­ing safer tow­paths in the Cap­i­tal.

The group CanalSafe has only ex­isted for a few weeks, but has al­ready de­signed and printed posters to raise aware­ness of the is­sue, ap­pointed a li­ai­son of­fi­cer to con­tact lo­cal po­lice, and be­gun or­gan­is­ing pa­trols – ba­si­cally groups of peo­ple walk­ing the tow­paths “as a vis­i­ble de­ter­rent to crim­i­nal and anti-so­cial be­hav­iour”.

A Face­book group CanalSafe – For Safer­Lon­don Com­mu­ni­tyTow­paths is be­ing used to ex­change in­for­ma­tion and ad­vice.
