LICHFIELD CANAL

Canal Boat - - News -

DAVID SUCHET IS pictured giving a helping hand to the Lichfield & Hatherton Canal Restoration Trust’s £1m fund-raising appeal at the Inland Waterways Association’s stand at the London Boat Show.

The actor and Trustees of the restoration trust outlined their current Tunnel Vision campaign, endorsed and supported by IWA, to raise £1 million before 2019. This would allow them to install a tunnel for the Lichfield Canal beneath the main Birmingham-Lichfield railway line, and so secure the restoration of the six-mile through route from the Birmingham Canal Navigations to the Coventry Canal.

The restoration trust has benefited from other assistance from IWA recently, receiving over £4,000 in IWA grants (£2,250 towards road signs to raise local awareness of the canals, and just under £2,000 towards costs for planning applications in respect of works at Darnford Lane).
