An Archimedes screw type hydroelectric generator installed at Sonning on the Thames is generating 99kW – and its owners Pridewater Estates say that makes them the first carbon-neutral marina operation in the UK. Pridewater’s four marinas on the Coventry, Grand Union, Birmingham & Fazeley and Peak Forest canals still buy their power from their current suppliers, but as their total draw is less than 99kW, overall the company is producing more clean energy than it uses.
