Sheila Nix 1920-2016
WE ARE sorry to have to bring you the sad news that lifelong waterways enthusiast and champion of the Pocklington Canal restoration Sheila Nix has died, aged 96.
A member of the Pocklington Canal Amenity Society since it was founded in 1969, she soon became the editor of its magazine DoubleNine, and continued in this role until 2005. She also served as the Society’s secretary, helped to operate its sales stall, and was in charge of its canal centre operated at Canal Head, Pocklington, on summer Sundays. She was also an active member of the Inland Waterways Association for over half a century (receiving its top award, the Cyril Styring Trophy, in 1993), as well as supporting other local waterways societies. She received the MBE for services to inland waterways in 2000.
