The emptying of several pounds in the Wolverhampton flight of 21 locks has been blamed on vandals. A Canal & River Trust spokesman said the cause wasn’t known but was most likely vandalism or a boat mistakenly leaving paddle up – however “given the time of year it’s more likely to be the former”. There have been similar problems in the past on this flight: a 2013 attack (in which vandals are believed to have made their own key for anti-vandal locks) caused flooding blamed for £80,000 worth of damage to a lock wall.
