VERDICT

Canal Boat - - The Boat Test -

This boat has a lot going for it. It’s on a good shell and has a reliable engine, which is always a good start. And the fit-out is good, too – it’s solidly built with great attention to detail.

Dave Howdle’s years of experience maintaining hire boats really shows through, because everything you’re ever likely to need to get at can be easily reached. You won’t have to take half the boat apart to reach the shower pump, for example. What’s more, the boat is immensely stylish inside and out. There’s the sort of design flare that you might expect on a much more expensive boat. And it’s a flexible design too, so you could have a dinette or stove if you wanted them.

Which brings us to the price – £89,950 is very reasonable for this boat, which includes everything except the loose furniture in the saloon. When you consider that everything is good quality, that’s little short of a bargain.

This is Ortomarine’s first private boat and they’re off to a flying start. They’ve got the right people and knowledge and experience to draw on. All the indications are that this example of diversification will be one of those that goes from strength to strength.
