New boat show goes west...
A NEW BOAT SHOW planned for Bristol in July 2017 promises to include inland waterways craft alongside seagoing vessels.
Following the demise of the Birmingham Boat & Caravan Show and the disappearance of the narrowboats and widebeams which used to be a feature of the London Boat Show, there has been a lack of inland interest outside of the Crick Boat Show.
However that trend began to reverse with the launch in 2015 of the Northern Boat Show in Liverpool Docks, whose organisers have now added the Western Boat Show. It will take place in Bristol Docks alongside the Bristol Harbour Festival on 21-23 July.
Event director Richard Milbourn drew comparisons with the Liverpool event’s “ability to cater for both the inland and offshore markets”. The organisers promised “the latest sailing, canal, rib and power boats” in the docks, plus shore-based exhibitors on Bristol’s Hannover Quay.
Meanwhile the Liverpool show has changed date for this year: it will coincide with the International Mersey River Festival on 23-25 June.
