Yes, it’s a blooming good idea
BOATERS who decorate their craft with flowers are to be rewarded for cheering up the canal scene by the Canal & River Trust in a ‘Boats in Bloom’ campaign.
CRT says the scheme, to be launched in National Gardening Week on 10-16 April, is about “thanking boaters whose planting makes people happy”. Awards will be given out by the Trust’s staff and volunteers recognising efforts “small or large” that make a positive contribution, with the option to nominate boats for special prizes in certain categories. Canal Boat’s very own gardening writer Julie Clark will be one of the judges.
Meanwhile the Thames is getting in on the act too, with award-winning florist Amie Bone planning to create ‘The Floating Gardens of Westminster’, an English garden complete with ‘top deck water feature’ aboard a London City Cruises trip-boat which will offer cruises in central London on 25-27 May.
