First time in 65 years as private boat drops in

COTSWOLD CANALS

Canal Boat - - News - CB,

THE FIRST privately owned narrowboat is pictured being craned into the six-mile ‘Phase 1a’ length of the Cotswold Canals, whose restoration is nearing completion.

Polly and Neil Fothergill’s 42ft boat Intrigue was lifted into the canal below Dudbridge Locks, on the west side of Stroud. She joins the various workboats and the Cotswold Canals Trust (CCT) trip-boat already on the waterway.

Although limited to the isolated length from Stonehouse to below Brimscombe Port for now, the owners hope that this year’s CCT bid for funding from the Lottery for the next length of canal from Stonehouse to Saul (see April) will be successful and their craft will once again have access to the whole network in around five years’ time.
