Finding the right parts is a bit tricky

Canal Boat - - Back Cabin: -

QI need a spare thermostat for a KD4 Mitsubishi engine marinised by Sabb, but parts seem non existent here in the U.S. Do you know of a parts supplier that I could order from online? RICHARD JAMSEN, via email

ATONY REPLIES: I doubt that there is anything special about your thermostat apart from possibly a slightly lower opening temperature than an automotive one.

I would take the thermostat and its housing to a place that supplies vehicle repairers with parts. They should be able to match it up and supply the new gasket that you’ll need.

If that doesn’t work, you could try taking the Mitsubishi engine number to your local Mitsubishi agricultural or construction plant agency they might be able to help you. Vetus also marinise Mitsubishi engines so it’s also worth trying Vetus agents.

If you exhaust those local sources, you could think about ordering from Europe. Also try Diamond Diesels, diamonddiesels.co.uk.
