Interim boating chief to oversee licence review
THE CANAL & RIVER TRUST has a new Head of Boating – but only as a temporary appointment for the duration of its current licensing review.
Head of Boating Mike Grimes put in his notice and left at Easter and no permanent replacement was found before he was due to depart. So, on an interim basis, North-East Waterway Manager Jon Horsfall has stepped into the role, where the Trust’s head of Customer Service and Operations Ian Rogers said he will “build on the great groundwork” that Mr Grimes put in place. At the same time he will remain in charge in the North-East, but a greater role in waterway management will be taken up by his colleagues Tom Wright and Mike Marshall during his secondment.
Mr Horsfall arrived just as the licensing review was moving on from its first phase (consulting user groups) to the second phase (in-depth workshops with boaters around the system) prior to the third phase (wider consultation). He will remain in post until it is completed in the autumn.
