AN­OTHER EA CLO­SURE

Fol­low­ing con­cerns ex­pressed by the In­land Wa­ter­ways As­so­ci­a­tion and ques­tions in Par­lia­ment ( see CB, April and May) about sev­eral in­def­i­nite long-term stop­pages on the En­vi­ron­ment Agency’s wa­ter­ways with the threat of more to come, a fur­ther clo­sure has af­fected the EA rivers. South Fer­riby Lock, which pro­vides ac­cess to the River An­cholme from the Hum­ber estuary, is in­op­er­a­ble ow­ing to silt­ing, trap­ping a num­ber of boats on the river. As we went to press the EA hadn’t given any com­mit­ment to re­open­ing this statu­tory nav­i­ga­tion.
