New trust commemorates campaigner
THE DAVID Blagrove Charity Trust has been launched in memory of one of the colourful characters of the canal world to continue his legacy.
The trust said its aims are to enrich local communities and improve the lives of disadvantaged youth through experiences on the UK canal and waterways network. As a teacher and mentor to young people, David was a keen supporter of the young. The trust’s long-term plans promote canal-based activities to engage youngsters as well as bringing communities together.
David made his home in Wharf Cottage with his wife, Jean and became synonymous with Stoke Bruerne. He was a passionate advocate of making the most of the UK canal network and provided a wealth of knowledge on its early working history.
In 2014, he was appointed MBE for services to the ‘Restoration of the UK Waterways’. He was also renowned as chairman of the Friends of the Canal Museum.
