The water just won’t go with the flow

Canal Boat - - Back Cabin: Experts -

Q The flow from my stainless steel tank was reducing. I replaced the Shurflo 11.4 lpm pump, but it ran non-stop. I also replaced the stop valve because there was very little flow there. Finally, I loosened the joint at the tank. Nothing: the pump will suck a little water but there is no flow at all from the tank. Can you help please? MIKE BICKERS, via email A TONY REPLIES: If you found that very little water flowed from the tank outlet pipe when you replaced the stop valve it means one of two things. The tank breather might be blocked: loosen the valve connection with the filler cap removed to eliminate that possibility.

Secondly, the tank outlet might be blocked. Hopefully the valve has a hole through the middle, so try removing the valve outlet pipe and poking rod through the valve into the tank.

The supply from tank to pump should have a strainer fitted but this is normally between the stop valve and pump. If it is blocked you get low pressure.
