BOATERS’ NOTES

Canal Boat - - The Cruise Guide -

Maximum dimensions: The Stratford Canal used to have a reputation for being shallow and having very tight locks. Although it is still rather less deep than some canals, there has been a considerable amount of improvement since those days. The narrowest locks have also been rebuilt (former working boats of around 7ft beam can now pass), but some are still quite tight.

Liftbridges: some require a CRT Watermate key to operate them, others are operated using a windlass.

River Avon: boaters travelling through to or from the Avon will need an Avon Navigation Trust visitor licence, which can be purchased in Stratford.
