He takes over from Ed Helps who has led the company since 1993. During that time it has grown from the former Alvechurch Boat Centre’s three hire bases to its current operation, with 16 bases offering around 200 craft under the ABC, Viking, Red Line, Reading Marine and Wessex names, as well as its marina, boat-building and boat share management operations.

Mr Onens said he was “delighted to be able to lead a strong and capable team at ABC”, adding that he looked forward to “building on the success and progress the business has made under Ed.”

Mr Helps, who will remain as an executive director working on projects, said the handover would “ensure that ABC will have a long, profitable and exciting future”.
