THE FLOWER OF GLOSTER
Readers whose interest in the waterways goes back to growing up in the 1960s may have fond memories of this children’s TV series, whose 13 half-hour episodes were broadcast in black & white autumn 1967. Now they can relive those memories in colour as the entire series has been released on a two DVD set. And those who don’t remember it can also enjoy the story of a group of youngsters, crewing a narrowboat after their boat-builder father is hurt in an accident, racing against time and troubles to get the boat from the Llangollen Canal to its buyer in London. But it isn’t just an entertaining tale: it’s set against the background of the canals, their characters and their surroundings which have often changed beyond recognition since those days.
