Boaters happier - except in London

Canal Boat - - News -

BOATERS’ SATISFACTION with the Canal & River Trust’s running of the waterways system is continuing to improve overall – but there are regional variations, with London boaters the unhappiest. These are the headline figures of the annual Boat Owners’ Views survey.

The annual check aims to seek the views of all CRT boaters over a three-year cycle, by targeting onethird of licence holders each year. The responses received this year from 1,160 respondents show an overall favourable impression: The percentage that were happy with their boating experience jumped from 68 last year to a five-year high of 76 percent 65 percent now trust CRT to run the waterways (up from 63) Satisfaction with overall upkeep of the waterways rose from 75 to 77 percent However respondents were less happy with how CRT prioritises its spending, the figure dropping from 40 to 37 percent. And a considerable regional split saw the happiest boaters in the Wales & Borders region, with the least satisfied in London, where the proportion who would recommend the waterways to others has fallen from 50 percent in 2015 to 42 percent in 2016 and 39 percent this year.
