Surrey Council has agreed £2m of funding to rebuild a dangerous length of road - which will also remove a major obstruction to the restoration of the Wey & Arun Canal. The culverted Elmbridge Road crossing in Cranleigh will be rebuilt to take two-way road traffic, and also to full navigable standard. The Wey & Arun Canal Trust said “Some years ago, the Trust identified a potential project which would remove the highway problem for users of Elmbridge Road and at the same time remove a significant obstruction to restoring the Wey & Arun Canal. The Trust is pleased to see that the County Council has concluded that the benefits to road users coupled with the enhancement of the recreational, environmental and public access opportunities of the canal are sufficient to justify the setting aside of funding.”
