Epic journey for two canal veterans
My partner and I recently came across two ladies on the Sheffield and South Yorks navigation who said they are travelling from Ripon to London in their narrowboats.
Here is one in Thorne on the Sunday morning taking a breather before going onto Keadby lock where they had booked the lock-keeper for a trip out onto the Trent and down to the Grand Union.
What makes this an interesting story is that one of these ladies is 84 years young and says she is not ready yet for a nursing home.
They both had praise for the help that Canal & River Trust volunteers had given them in their journey, and they must be an inspiration to anyone thinking of planning such a journey – it just goes to show, age is just a number.
