Canal Boat - - The Boat Test -

Lynn and Steve Brown met when they were both serv­ing in the Navy. Lynn was in the Wrens and be­came a so­cial worker, which took her from Ply­mouth and Portsmouth to Gi­bral­tar and Honk Kong. Steve was in the en­gi­neer­ing depart­ment look­ing af­ter war­ships at sea and then work­ing on fuel sys­tems.

They started boat­ing be­cause the Navy has a cou­ple of nar­row­boats based at Cal­cutt. It means they’ve a boat­ing his­tory stretch­ing back some 20 years.

They started plan­ning their new boat five years ago and a lot of time has been in­vested in re­search­ing what sys­tems to put on board. The boat’s name comes from an in­ci­dent which hap­pened when Steve was a boy. His grand­fa­ther sent him on an er­rand to the shops, and said he could also buy some sweets for him­self with some of the change. But Steve mis­heard; he bought threpence ha’penny worth of sweets, when his grand­fa­ther had ac­tu­ally said three ha’pen­nies – so he had to give most of the sweets back...
