FERNWOOD DOVEDALE 62FT CRUISER
HERE’S A STRIKING looking boat that’s loaded with technology. It’s based on a ColeCraft shell and has a large cruiser stern surrounded by cruise ship-style railings. Set into the railings are taff seats that move up and down electrically, depending on whether you want to sit or perch. There’s also a screen linked to a camera at the bow which can look left and right as you turn out of the marina, and has a 36x zoom so you can see from one end of a tunnel to the other. It also has night vision, should you ever need it. Inside, there’s a Sonos sound system throughout the boat (which we’re told has a subwoofer than can make the water round the boat vibrate!), built in Wi-Fi and an alarm system.
This is a reverse layout boat, with the galley at the stern. The dinette has a glass table, and the sofa in the saloon has a magazine rack built into the end, plus an arm that flips down to extend the sitting length. An attractive blue laminate is used in the through shower room, both in the quadrant shower cubicle and on the unit doors. There’s under gunwale cupboards and a heated mirror. In the cabin, the cross bed is electric, so the fill-in section lifts up at the touch of a button.
The boat is powered by a Beta 50 engine, with a 3.5kW Travel Power generator. There are also Side Power hydraulic bow and stern thrusters. The electrical system is 24v, with six Rolls AGM batteries and a Victron 3kW inverter. Solar panels to help to keep the batteries charged. The price reflects the number of extras on this boat; Fernwoods of this length start at around £150,000.
Verdict: More technology than you can vibrate a canal at.
