COVENTRY CATHEDRALS Sir Basil Spence’s striking modern cathedral, completed in 1962, stands next to the original cathedral destroyed by the Luftwaffe in 1940, with only the spire and outer wall surviving. The ruins now form a garden of remembrance; the new cathedral is notable for its huge tapestry of Christ and its stained glass in abstract designs.
