CRT RESPONDS ON LEE ISSUE

Canal Boat - - News -

The Canal & River Trust has responded to local news reports of disagreements between competitive rowers and other users on the River Lee in east London, and the suggestion that the Trust was planning to limit mooring space in order to maintain a 60ft clear channel between Old Ford and Tottenham. CRT’s Sorwar Ahmed said that the Trust had been “in dialogue with the National Bargee Travellers Association London and the Lea Rowing Club as part of developing a London mooring strategy”, that the plans referred to were “initial proposals for discussion” rather than formal proposals, that they “certainly do not advocate a 60ft channel between Old Ford and Tottenham”, and there would be an opportunity to comment on CRT’s proposals when published as part of the draft strategy later this summer.
