Alerting anglers is the right approach
My wife and I were recently on the Upper Peak Forest Canal on a wet grey Sunday morning. As we were cruising along, I spotted a fisherman ahead.
Actually I spotted his large green umbrella beside the bank. I did as I usually do and gave a toot on the horn to warn the fisherman of our approach. When we passed he thanked me and said I was the only person who had ever warned him of our approach. With some anger he said the rest just charge through.
Perhaps if other people were to give fishermen some warning of their approach and a wave as they went by, they might be pleasantly surprised by the reaction they get. PETER CURRIE, Nb Hedwig the Third
