When we say this is Jem Boats’ first boat, that’s only partly true. It’s the first one Joe Miller has built from scratch, but he’d previously bought an old boat which needed a complete refit, gutted it, and started again.
The money from selling that boat allowed him to set up his own joinery workshop, equipped with everything he needed for wood working. When he’s not building boats, Joe does all sorts of other joinery work, including making furniture, building kitchens, fitting out camper vans and doing shopfitting.
His aim is to win a commission to build a boat to a customer’s specifications.
