Turning canal art into haute couture
Dress designer Katya Wildman is just wild about canals so teamed up with skilled artist Trina Day to create the Bombshell tea dress – adorned with a rose design redolent of a boatman’s back cabin.
“I became heart-thumpingly enthralled with the folk art of canal art. Inky black kettles with simple rose designs all picked out with clear white stitch detailing just really got me thinking,” said Katya.
Trina, from Boat Foray, has been boating for 30 years, first on the Kennet & Avon followed by the Trent & Mersey and paints in the traditional Roses and Castles style.
After fitting out her boat with her husband she taught herself to paint and went to produce countless kettles and casks.
