The planning application for repairs to Stainton Aqueduct on the unnavigable Lancaster northern reaches, damaged in the December 2016 floods, has been approved by South Lakeland District Council. The Canal & River Trust is still working to raise the £1.5m cost, but CRT’s Stephen Higham said this was “a welcome step”, as the Trust can now show potential funding partners a “comprehensive and fully approved programme” of restoration.
