TYRES, BRAKES & SUSPENSION

23 CHECK TYRES

The rear tyres can wear unevenly around the inner edge, resulting in a noise when the car is driven that sounds like a worn wheel bearing. The issue is usually due to the tracking, which needs to be checked and adjusted. However, the tyres may also need to be renewed to stop the noise.

24 FRONT BRAKE STRIPDOWN

The rear brakes should be visually inspected and not stripped, due to the electronic handbrake, whereas the fronts can be stripped. Start by removing the spring clip for the outer pad, then undo the slider bolts with a 7mm Allen key and lift off the caliper. Extract the brake pads.

25 WIRE BRUSH THE BRAKES

If the pads/discs are reusable, clean the pads, the edge of the disc, the caliper and the carrier with a wire brush, before spraying over them with brake cleaner. Add a smear of brake grease to the top and bottom edges of the pads before reassembling them and refitting the spring clip.
