Alarming problem

-

I have a 1997 Mercedes-benz C180 petrol and I am hoping you can come to my aid once again. We have owned this car for several years and, for some unknown reason, the security alarm has decided to go off. I was going to remove the wiring to the siren and thought better of it, as it might interfere with the disabling of the ignition system. The problem appears to have arisen with the recent very warm weather, but as the car has been in similar temperatures in the past, I have my doubts. There is talk that things may get cooler and it will be interesting to see if things improve as a result. David Watkins According to my data, the siren has its own battery unit and it is possible that disconnecting the wiring to the siren will activate the unit. As the problem has started when the weather warmed up, the most likely source of the fault is the internal sensor located within the interior lamp unit in the centre of the headlining. This would be a good place to start checking the connections, ensuring that all contacts are good.

The alarm system is quite complex on your Mercedes and I can find around 20 possible causes for its unintentional activation. The best option would be to find a local garage that can access the alarm codes and read off the exact fault. This may simply be a sensor or it may be a more serious control unit or Can-bus fault.
