Tales from the Workshop

Unusual tips and fixes.

While working under the bonnet of this 2005 Citroën Xsara we suddenly noticed the 12V battery was missing from its usual place. There was plenty of space for the battery and the cables were all visible, should the need arise to use jump leads, but for some reason Citroën had decided to relocate the battery under the passenger seat.

This really makes no sense to us and must have added costs at the manufacturing stage, due to the extra-heavy duty cable used. A quick look convinced us that if the battery did need to be replaced, retrieving it from below the passenger seat would not be an easy task.

Thankfully, this Citroën had no battery or charging problems, so this was one bridge that we didn’t have to cross on that particular day!

The battery cable is connected under the bonnet, but the battery itself is snugly fitted under the passenger seat.
