Heater control panel
The automatic climate control on this 2005 Mazda3 was designed to be set at a comfortable temperature, then left to ensure the interior of the vehicle remained steady. The system was working, but the temperature could no longer be adjusted – spinning the temperature control dial did not alter the display on the control panel.
After a few simple tests, it was apparent that the control panel was the source of the problem. A quick phone call to our local Mazda dealer revealed that a new unit came with a £500 price tag, so a secondhand unit was sourced for a much more reasonable £40 and fitted into the centre console. This involved the removal of the radio and the lower trim to access the retaining screws.
The radio and lower trim panel needed to be removed to access the fittings for the control unit.
