Fault code reader

Car Mechanics (UK) - - Help! -

I have a 1997 Mercedes-benz C180 and would like to buy a fault code reader. I am interested in the Autel Maxiscan MS509. Will this work on my car and would you recommend it? David Watkins The Autel Maxiscan MS509 is a tool for use with vehicles that are Obd-compliant. This did not come into force in European vehicles until 2001, so vehicles built and sold before this date are not guaranteed to be compatible.

Vehicles sold in the US market had compliance from 1996 and, from the information I have, Mercedes cars sold in Europe were compliant from around 1998. You can confirm this if your vehicle has the 38-pin diagnostic adapter behind a plastic cover by the nearside front suspension turret. Unfortunately, a reasonably priced handheld option is not available for your vehicle.
