With an aluminium construction, this headtorch from Ring looks sophisticated. A 3.7-volt 2.8Ah lithium-ion battery is contained in a case that is positioned at the back of your head. The headtorch has a small rubber on/off button that’s moderately easy to find and has two settings – 115 and 240 lumens – which last for 7-8 hours, although we found the light started to fade on 240 lumens after half-an-hour. A recharge via a micro-usb lead takes nine hours. There’s a camera lens-style zoom control on the front, which changes the angle of illumination. One feature we found very useful was switching it off – unlike other headtorches whose switches need to be pressed a couple of times to work through the different settings, if the Ring unit is left switched on for more than 10 seconds, one press of the on/off switch will turn it off. This was the favourite with our mechanics.
