Key remote battery fitting

Car Mechanics (UK) - - Tales From The Workshop -

▶ The owner of this 2003 Vauxhall Astra had owned the car for two years. When he first got the vehicle, he was given two keys, one of which he just chucked in a drawer in case he ever needed it. It was only after dropping his keys in a puddle, rendering the remote inoperative, that he decided to use the other key. The remote on this didn’t work either and he assumed the battery was flat. He asked us if we could fit a new battery.

Replacing the battery is an easy task on the Vauxhall key – the remote section just pulls away from the key and immobiliser chip, after which it can be gently prised open. It was at this point that we discovered that there was no battery or remote control inside the fob! The moral of the story is: when you get a new vehicle, always try all the keys straight away – it’s a bit late to complain two years later!

When we opened up the key-fob we found it had nothing inside.
