COCKPITS: THE GOOD, THE BAD & THE ODD
BEST: MCLAREN 720S Its sport seats are fairly reclined, which isn’t to everyone’s taste, but this is a very special interior. Portrait-format infotainment makes for close-set seats and an almost central feel. Glass roof bubble means exceptional visibility, while the steering wheel and shift paddles are lessons in tactile joy. It’d take a long time to get bored in here. WORST: FORD FOCUS RS Harsh, but the truth is the that for all the eorts Ford Performance lavished on the chassis and drivetrain, you can’t take the Focus out of the RS, so the Mountune is saddled with high-set chairs and ergonomics that don’t satisfy in anything like the same way as the slick, purposeful Civic. Supersweet gearshift on the Ford, though. ODDEST: AMG GT R The two AMGs share design DNA but where the rich detailing and lavish use of space feels entirely appropriate in the enormous, comfortablewhen-you-want-it-to-be E63 S, in the GT R they feel a little out of place. Inherited architecture dictates the enormous centre console too, while the tacked-on slip control dial looks like a bodge.
