Taken in vain

Seeing adverts for the Ford Mondeo Vignale has saddened me. It’s another once-great name reduced to a grille and few styling details. Just like Ghia, a once proud coachbuilder/design studio reduced to stickers, upholstery colours and a lick of paint. They’re gone, so it would be better to let them rest in peace rather than being cynically held like zombies on life support.

Or take BMW’s Mini Coopers. Cooper used to be special – to mean something. Possibly John is revolving in his grave (faster and a bit more peakily than his neighbours). Anthony Healey
