LETTER OF THE MONTH
> VIA EMAIL
Gavin Green’s September column: brilliant; just brilliant! Gavin and I are both old enough to have driven ‘proper’ cars for many years and as such are less receptive to modern cars being dumbed down as a sop to the ‘smartphone generation’. I may be staring retirement in the face, but I still seem to be capable of turning on my own wipers or applying the handbrake; my eyesight even seems good enough to judge the distance to the car in front without any nannying. I seem to manage to conduct my life perfectly satisfactorily without a smartphone and just as I only need my phone to make phone calls so I only need my car to be a pleasure to drive. So I'll stick to my 21-year-old Lotus Elise and let the modernists prod and talk to their cars.
